This month’s meeting was held Monday, October 7, 2019, at The Copper House Grill located in Fairmont, WV. First Officer John Hawkins led the meeting. There were fifteen people in attendance.
First Officer John Hawkins began the meeting by introducing our new members from last month; Jerry West (no, not THAT one ), Doug Gower and Bonnie Gower.
Treasurer, Lisa Hawkins announced our expenses for the Picnic that was held in August 2019. Our share of those expenses came to $53.
The 2020 National Rally will be held in North Carolina next year. There will be a separate post devoted entirely to this event. These rallies bring S.C.R.C. members together and offer events and excursions. Those who participate create friendships that last a lifetime!
The annual Halloween party will be hosted by the 542 chapter again this year at the Pleasant Valley Firehall upstairs conference room at 6 pm on October 26th. (1707 Pleasant Valley Rd, Fairmont, WV 26554)
Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
The 542 is seeking volunteers to help decorate. If you would like to volunteer please arrive at the Firehall at 4 pm. It’s always great to see members stopping by to chip in and help where they can. It’s a great time to catch up with those you haven’t seen in a while.
As discussed, voted and agreed in our previous meeting, our annual Christmas party this year will be a dinner style get-together. The dinner venue choices are; Best Western (Traditional meal), Muriale’s (Italian) and possibly The Pines Clubhouse. The average cost per adult will be approximately $26.
The time slot we are looking at will be somewhere between noon to 2 pm. We are inquiring about prices for the children and will have that available soon. The tentative date is Sunday, December 1st for Best Western and Muriale’s. We do not have any more information about The Pines Clubhouse at this time. Please watch our Facebook group and website for any additional details.
There will be a poll up later today on our Facebook page and it is important that anyone interested in attending place a vote. The poll will only be available for a few days and will close by Friday, October 11th, as we need to make our reservations soon.
Members are encouraged to bring a donation for the Veterans who live at the Veterans Nursing Home. Permissible items will be posted later this week.
Veterans Day Parade
The Veterans Day Parade is November 11th, 2019. We will meet at Hardee’s at the Joy Street exit in Clarksburg at 10:30 AM. (722 E Main St, Clarksburg, WV 26301) The parade line up is at noon.
Maryland Meet & Greet
There will be a few members riding up to attend the Maryland Meet & Greet Friday, October 11th – Sunday, October 13th. If you would like to join in, please let us know! We wouldn’t want to leave anyone behind. A specific meet up time will be announced by Thursday evening but will more than likely be at the Morgantown Sabraton Sheetz (1901 Earl L. Core Road).
We are not going to schedule any Fall rides ahead of time due to changing weather. If there is a ride you’d like to take, please let us know. We will watch for an appropriate day for riding and announce it week by week.
It was motioned and agreed to bring back the 50/50 can (pull tickets) beginning with our January 2020 meeting. Fun! Fun! Fun!

It was great to see so many members enjoying the club and supporting our meetings activities.
This riding season is quickly coming to an end. Looking forward to the 2020 riding season, I’d like to take this time to encourage all members to participate when possible. This is a joint effort for all members to make this into a memorable upcoming year for us all. So come on everyone lets all step forward and lend a hand, attend a meeting, take group photographs, write an article about one of our rides or events, donate, volunteer, make suggestions, reach out to an old member and encourage them to join us on a ride, invite a potential new member!
Participation is crucial! Happily, the 485 has a great group of officers and a few active members but the long-term growth and success of the chapter depend entirely on the efforts of its members.
If you enjoy and value your membership in this chapter, you owe it to yourself to contribute to its success. Whether it’s attending a get-together, inviting a new member or any of the other activities, don’t assume “the other guy” will always be the one to step up and help/attend. Every extra bit of effort helps. You’ll enjoy the interaction with other members and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have made an important contribution to your chapter.
